Can anyone tell me if fitting a K&N Typhoon Induction Kit to my 2.5 will be of any use

Some good reviews here:-

I've driven a mk2.5 before and after (this was the only mod). As Kev says, free'ed the engine up a little, but the main improvement was noise - really nice induction growl. There's a good clip of one on YouTube here taken at our Sprint Day last year at Curborough:-

If you're looking to improve performance, this is a step in the right direction, but you'll need to consider the exhaust to free the breathing at the 'other end'.
I think the main sticking point is the price (brand new they're somewhat expensive), but if you're getting a good deal on a used one go for it!

Just quickly, if you use the Parts Search (rightmost box Google box on the forum)...
Type in MX-5 Parts and use the Sponsored Link to get you there, that link will give a credit to the Google powered charity incentive I've set up.
I've got one fitted to my car the main improvement to the car is the aural experience - it's not much louder than stock when idling or under gentle driving but when you drive in a more spirited manner and put your foot down the induction noise is fantastic.
In performance terms you don't really gain anything. In my subjective opinion (I haven't got any dyno data to back this up) the throttle response is slightly keener and you might lose a little in the low end and gain a bit at the top end.
It's a nice mod.
got one on my 1.8 sport 2.5
the acceleration seems better, but the best bit is the noise when you floor it and get up in the 5-6k rev range
prev post probably right in that a cat bypass and decent back box would improve the breathing
...im thinking of fitting high performance HT leads (8mm) anyone tried this?

Not so sure on the CAT bypass - this is only usually done on the early mk1's that don't need them for the MOT emissions test. Some people do remove them on later cars, but then either refit for the MOT, or know a mechanic who finds a way around it (i.e. uses another vehicle for the emissions test). You can get 'high flow cat's' but you're starting to spend. It's usually just the back box (also known as cat-back) that you'd replace on a mk2 onwards.
Re: the leads sounds like a plan. The general concensus has been (for many years) to go with the Magnecor 8mm. Below is a link to the page on MX5Parts to give an idea:-

Although it's not listed in the mag, there was always a Club discount if you ordered from them direct ... I think 10%, which the last time I bought any made them slightly cheaper... worth double checking.
